Superbowl 2012 Power Outage Caused by Solar Activity

Anyone who watched the Superbowl in New Orleans in 2013 between the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers knows that at one point during the game half the lights in the stadium went out causing a 34 minute long delay in the game. While ESPN reports there were concerns with the electrical system in the month leading up to the game, and spent nearly $600,000 to improve the electrical feeder system, no one really knows why there was a problem, even though they traced it back to a particular device. A spike in the electrical system could have tripped it, but no meters recorded a spike during that time. I maybe the only person in the world who has noticed that there was also sunspot activity on the day of the Superbowl. On February 3rd and 4th there was an earth facing solar storm. It is well known that solar storms can affect electrical systems. I recall how on that day, I got an alert from spaceweather.com warning me about the solar storm (I am subscribed to such alerts). Also, there was a short time just before the game started that our satellite television service went out, quite possible also caused by the solar storm. Then came the stadium outage during the game.

The Crucible of Experience and Manifestation | QuantumCafé

Here’s a message I needed to receive and think about. It has to do with stress and how feeling good is important so we can manifest what we want in the world.

Mercury Retrograde

This seems like one of the worst Mercury retrograde periods I’ve ever been through. Mercury started to go retrograde around mid April and will continue until May 14th. I am beset with a very slow transition from my job, working in a loony bin (most politically incorrect word choice) to my new job working with a doctor in a brain training clinic.

Taking my cues from astrologyzone, it’s not a good idea to start a new job during Mercury retrograde, or even the week before Mercury starts the retrograde motion. And if you do, there is a good chance the contract will have to be re-negotiated, or that you may not want to stay with the new job at all. It all seems so very true for me. While I want very much to stay with my new job, it is just very slow to start and I’m concerned with making money. At the same time, I’m enjoying the slow start and not working yet, because I really enjoy my time to myself. So, I try to be resigned to not worry about the job situation until after May 14th when things start going direct again.

To give some technical explanation, when Mercury, or any planet, “goes retrograde” it is in a position to appear to go backwards in its motion across the sky due to the positioning and relative motion of the earth and that planet to one another.

In the meantime, you can hear the astrologically aware folks across the land complain about every computer glitch, every travel delay, and the frustrated lack of progress to get on with our lives blamed on Mercury retrograde. Must be a powerful planet indeed! Happy mid-Mercury retrograde everyone!

Meditation for the Ills of the Mind

Do you have a meditation practice of sitting still, perhaps cross legged on a pillow, and observing your mind, thoughts and emotions? I’ve been practicing for years, but sometimes I fall out of practice.

I had recently gone through a couple of weeks of feeling anxious and unhappy. I noticed my mind going to recurring unpleasant thoughts that I didn’t want to have. I tried telling myself “cancel” or “gone” but that was only helping marginally. Finally I got around to boosting my daily meditation practice to a couple of times per day. That was cause for a real shift towards feeling happy.

I’ve been trained in Buddhist meditation for many years. I love it, frankly. I’ve been on several long meditation retreats and in my mid twenties traveled to India and lived amongst the cave dwelling swamis in the Himalayas. At that time, an energy burned like a flame within my heart. I know from experience that meditation can do a great deal to transform our lives in a healthy way and re-connect us to our spiritual source. It takes a bit of effort and dedication. It is also a practice that is easy to neglect or forget.

I also get a free daily guided meditation emailed to me from Rich German. It’s a good reminder and helps me get into it each day.

Since I’ve made a re-commitment to meditation. I have been having a lot more fun. I”m happier and drawing more pleasant experiences to me. I think there may be something about this time period, of change and upheaval, that calls for meditation even more. I’m feeling confident these days that I can soak it all in, be with the experience and still find a spacious peaceful state within.
